Travel has always been a huge part of my life, yet it was Latin America that stole the show. My love of the continent first arose in 2013 when I took the opportunity to work in Lima as an English teacher as part of my BA in Modern European Languages. My time there exposed me to the delicious food as well as the vibrant and highly infectious culture of the locals, and in an instant I was hooked.

From then on, I have enjoyed the amazing gastronomy of Peru, I’ve seen the staggering beauty of Machu Picchu, and watched whitetip reef sharks in the Galapagos Islands.

Every time I go to Latin America, I am always astounded that there is something new to see and discover. I am so excited to show you what these countries have to offer.

I recommend visiting - The Galapagos Islands, Galapagos Islands

Sitting on the whitest and softest sand on Cerro Brujo beach on San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos gave me the feeling of being completely at one with nature. Spending just a few hours in this idyllic place allowed me to witness groups of sea lions going for a swim in the crystal-clear waters before basking in the sun just a few feet from me. Watching them play and interact in perfect harmony with the mockingbirds and iguanas was something truly magical that few have seen.

Hotel B in Barranco, Lima stands as a temple to the glory of Peru’s colonial era. It is set in a Belle Époque mansion in the heart of the city's social scene and was originally used as a retreat for the president. It maintains its original features but couples them with a stylish interior full of contemporary artworks. The hotel boasts the most extensive gin menu in the city as well as one of the top bartenders in the world and has a magical roof terrace where you can watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean.

I'll never forget when…

Navigating Lake Titicaca allowed me to learn about the culture of the Uru people who have lived on the floating Uros Islands, which are made from reeds, for hundreds of years. Their lifestyle is fascinating but tourism is now their main income. After leaving them we made our way to Llachon Peninsula, which, by contrast, is an untouched region. It is populated by a small number of people who live in quiet retreat from the more touristy islands. There, we experienced a more authentic side of local life and spent some time hiking and eating while enjoying a panoramic view of the enormous lake.
