Matt

Hidden Beaches Specialist

Matt's passion for travel began when he first started within the travel industry tailor-making itineraries throughout Portugal. His curiosity to discover new countries and cultures then lead him to joining British Airways as cabin crew and he spent the next six years exploring the world. His favourite destinations include Indonesia, Hong Kong, Sydney, the Maldives and Cape Town.

After leaving British Airways, Matt drew from his experiences to help design trips for an independent travel agency. He then started his career with Audley in the Concierge Service before joining our Hidden Beaches team. Since then he has visited some fantastic beach locations in the Maldives, Indonesia, Langkawi and Oman. Some of his personal highlights include diving off the east coast of Bali and swimming with reef sharks and turtles in the Maldives.

When not working Matt enjoys running, cooking his favourite dishes from around the world and spending time with friends and family.

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, Bali

I recommend visiting - Bali, Indonesia

Bali has always held a very special place in my heart as this was where I proposed to my wife on our travels! Bali is a very unique and versatile destination that can be whatever you want it to be, from relaxing on one of the beautiful beaches, immersing yourself into the local culture and traditions or venturing to the lesser known Northern regions for some stunning views. The Balinese people are very welcoming and love to share their passion for their country and their beliefs. You may also be lucky enough and time your visit to coincide with one of the many local ceremonies which are a regular part of Balinese life.

Water Pool Villa, Baros Maldives, Maldive Island

I recommend staying at - Baros Maldives, Maldives

Deluxe

The Maldives is one of the most picturesque locations in the world and arriving by speedboat to Baros Island I certainly felt like I had arrived in paradise. This is a sharp, stylish, luxury resort with a personal feel. The service is impeccable and a cocktail whilst watching the sunset in the lighthouse lounge is a must! Baros also has a superb house reef which is fantastic for snorkelling and diving! For a truly romantic experience I can highly recommend treating yourself to the unforgettable 'Sandbank Dining' experience.

I'll never forget when…

As someone who loves snorkelling, my most memorable experience has to be around the house reef at Baros Island. Known as one of the best areas to snorkel and dive in the Maldives I was amazed by the number of different exotic fish and by the number of reef sharks I was swimming with. The ultimate part of my snorkelling venture and an experience that I will never forget, was to swim with Dexter the turtle. The Marine biologists on the island are currently tracking and researching into the movements of the turtles that visit the reef and they have named all 13 of them! If you see one for yourself, take a photo or make a mental note of any distinguishing features, the team will then let you know who you have had the pleasure of swimming with.
